If your heart could talk, what would it say?

If its true what the sages say, that the heart has only four basic needs, then attention is the first and most important step to healing the heart.

The center of our existence is our hearts. It's in this space from where our entire life begins because it's the chakra where love resides. Living with a healthy and open heart clears the way to wellness--of body and spirit.

This second week of the Chopra Center 21 Day Meditation challenge will explore ways to open the heart and making it receptive to receiving and offering love. Today's meditation was a simple and yet profound: sit with your heart and listen to it. Just listen. When was the last time you sat silently and listened to your heart? What stories did it tell you?

Learning to listen to what your heart says, to the words that it conjures up, to the images that emerge and tending to the understanding of these the messages and working with them and through them is the beginning of a lifelong conversation with self.

The challenge today -- to simply listen -- can be scary for those who are not comfortable with what the heart has to say because for too long they haven't paid attention. But, we cannot live a joyful life ignoring the needs of the heart, turned away from its desires and certainly doing the opposite of what it wants. To live like that is to live in a constant state of unhappy.

Living healthy means living congruent between what your heart wants and what you do. If you don't pay attention, you won't know your heart's true desires.

Your heart knows best and it will constantly remind you what it needs. The question is--are you listening? Be respectful of one your heart's basic needs, attention! Listen lovingly, patiently, quietly and without judgement. Just listen.
