Focusing on how I fuel my body this way has allowed me to eat healthier not in a big visionary way, but with each small choice I make.
While in Venice a few months ago a friend took me to Cafe Gratitude, an eatery that understands that partaking in breaking bread is sacred. In fact, their view is that their environments are part of something they call "sacred commerce." They hold that food and people are a celebration of our aliveness. They buy from sustainable local farms, serve organic ingredients that honor the earth and all of its creatures. They are proud to blast on their menu that they prepare the food with love. What's also wonderful is their menu, each offering has names that inspire: I am Fortified, I am Pure, I am Terrific, I am Connected. These salads, sandwiches, soups, and entrees labeled with positive affirmations are a celebration of life. And I swear that eating the, "I am Magical," a home made veggie burger with coconut bacon, made me just a tad more magical.
They also come from a space of gratefulness.
If you look at food this way a shift begins to happen within. So many of us struggle with food, that food has become our enemy. Instead of looking at a beautiful green salad that will fortify, many look at it as calories. They forget the earth, the effort it took to get this plate there--the sunlight, journey of the greens. And so it goes with everything we eat.
In tiny steps, we can all change our relationships to food, the earth, and most of all, to ourselves and each other.
And so I offer you my version of I am Magical. It's a morning juice blend I made of all my favorite fruits and herb (wait is ginger an herb?): pineapples, apples, ginger, and lemons. This is my starter juice on many mornings and I swear it opens up a portal so that I can be even more magical and open to the tiny miracles that surround me.
Be mindful of what and how you eat and your body, mind and spirit will be even more grateful.
This makes four delicious glasses:
1 ripe pineapple
1 table spoon / chunk of ginger
